Statement
What use is a physical body if I have nothing to hold?
Am I looking for companionship?
Comfort?
Or some semblance of self recognition?
My love is for making soft art that forms relationships with the viewer’s internal weather. The flexibility and softness of fabric and thread allow for a sympathetic portrayal of our natural forms. I use the fiber medium to create soft sculptures, puppets, and two dimensional fiber pieces which I can use to show the sympathetic magic that lays within our physical manifestations. I hope to explore emotions and thought patterns through motifs separate enough from our recognizable selves that they invite us to shed our preconceived ideas of consciousness and humanity. I also aim to delve deeper into humankind’s ability to overlay personalities onto inanimate objects, and the unintentional imprinting that occurs when reacting to likeness.
I, cocooned in my brain and nerves and skin, enjoy spending my free time watching bodies sprout from my hands, and hope that they will create a life that will somehow surpass my own.
