Statement

I am a multi- disciplinary artist and cultural worker of Jamaican heritage born in New York City (1988). I work in painting, installation and video on themes of diaspora, memory and fragmentation. My work is about recovering the evidence of my family’s invisible ancestral histories to better understand their lives and relationships with one another. Drawing from remnants of their vibrant and complex lives, I reinterpret their likeness through portraiture to embody reflections of multiplicities within our family dynamics. I am intrigued by divinity found in the in-between spaces within our cultural knowings that have been tucked away, protected and passed down across generations through oral history as a means of tracing back to source, while in dialogue with notions of liberation, migration and decolonization.
