Statement
My artworks investigate disappearance and memory. Absent of a subject, narratives take form through multiple mediums as I let various clues tell the clips of the story. Our minds recall people by seeing familiar belongings and sights we associate with them. An object reminds us of its owner, and places are proxies of an actual person. I take a micro perspective, focusing on small details in order to subtly trigger people’s imagination of a specific place and culture.
Recently, my work has been exploring the theme of commemoration. Based on literature and historical documents, I am in the process of creating a story about a journey to follow a fictional transgender filmmaker named Long. After she passed away, visiting the places that appeared in her films become the only way to approach her. I use different methods to draw, creating the intersection of imagination and reality.
