Statement

What is death? What happens after death? Death is the ultimate uncertainty; although we are afraid to confront it, we desire to explore it.

I have not pondered the idea of death before. It was not something I would have to think of, or it was my fear that made me refuse to think about it. However, an unexpected car accident forced me to face reality; my grandfather passed away. It was my first time experiencing people close to me departing. I started to think about death and how people feel about it. Within our lifelong journey preceding the eternal rest, accepting it and living with it is our daily life.

The title, “lives in between”, not only indicates the status of living in between life and death but also suggests all of the existent poising between life and death. With this body of work, I aim to observe and preserve the subtle progression of lives, responding to both my experience, human fear, and desire understanding the ultimate unknown.
