not (yet) futura free is a compilation of ten multidisciplinary projects that will unfold over a period of six weeks during this moment of collective transformation and grief. The projects center slow change, healing, and nostalgia for the future. They consider the usefulness of poetry and non-verbal communication to express future possibilities; go back to the past to remember rituals and languages long forgotten; and document movement through each complicated day. The poetry, performances, and conversations will be archived in an online publication presented in partnership with STABLE.
The project exists as an in-between space, inspired by the scholarship of Kara Keeling who uses the term poetry from the future to describe a felt presence of the unknowable. Nostalgia is a recurring mood throughout, using the definition of nostalgia as having both a past and future dimension that can be helpful as we collectively re-consider what the world will be like emerging from a global pandemic.
