Operational Mode 4 - Guidelines for Programs Involving Minors

Campus programs involving minors on campus during Fall 2021 can proceed provided some precautions are planned.

Under Operational Mode 4, minor programs cannot return to pre-pandemic status and campus offices should anticipate modifications to activities, spaces and scheduling.

  1. Separation - Minor activities should be planned for minimal interaction with the rest of the MICA community (UGS students, Grad students, faculty/staff).   It will be important to keep unvaccinated minors largely separated.
  2. Masks – All participants must wear masks, including both vaccinated and unvaccinated students, parents and legal guardians if entering MICA buildings, staff, and faculty.
  3. Vaccines – Vaccines should be strongly encouraged for participants, including minors once eligible, but MICA does not require it.  Vaccines for children under 12 years aren’t likely to become available until early 2022.
  4. Scheduled spaces - All activities for any length of time should take place in designated classrooms or other scheduled space on campus.  Transient activity (hallways, restrooms, elevator) is not a significant concern. Classroom reservations should be worked out with Christine Peterson/Enrollment Services.
  5. Food breaks - May take place in designated classrooms/spaces with 3 feet physical distancing.  Minors should not take breaks in transient areas or shared common areas (lounges, etc.) with other MICA students.  Eating outside when possible is strongly encouraged.
  6. Cleaning – There is no need for special cleaning protocols or products.  MICA’s normal building maintenance cleaning protocol will be followed.  Please work out cleaning schedules directly with Facilities.
  7. Social Agreement – Minors and parents/legal guardians will need to sign a social agreement specifically for minor programs.  It is the responsibility of the sponsoring office/area to manage these social agreements as well as compliance with MICA’s Operational Mode 4 standards.
