Institutional Impact Audit

Most departments across campus have been impacted this fall due to campus closure, the move to remote work, and budgetary measure enacted in response to the global health pandemic. The following matrix summarizes any changes in services, process, or personnel as a result.

Exhibitions - most regular functions are on hiatus due to the closure of campus.

Fabrication - has shifted to remote production services, primarily in printmaking, design and digital fabrication, since the shops are closed. Some staff have been reassigned for the fall semester to ensure appropriate coverage for fall courses.

Process Changes

Student access for Fabrication Studios is limited and prioritized for pertinent coursework only through Remote Production Services.

Campus Safety

Facilities Management and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)

Functional Changes

Facilities Management and EHS services will operate on a limited staffing capacity Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Building Services custodians will clean bathrooms, remove trash, and disinfect campus buildings and departments which have communicated occupancy levels to both Campus Safety and Facilities Management.

All after hours or weekend Facilities Management emergencies should follow the Facilities on Duty (FOD) protocol. More information can be found here.

MICA-JHU Film Centre

Functional Changes

Evening and weekend support for classes, especially MA and BYFA needs; support for VR and AR programming; workshops; and collaboration and support for community partners including the Baltimore School for the Arts (BSA) and Wide Angle Youth Media are scaled back.

Equipment repairs: broken equipment is being taken offline and thus unavailable for student/faculty use. Hours for equipment checkout and remote tech support are reduced.

Equipment and Cage processes are impacted, including checkout and turnaround times, equipment repairs and maintenance, response times to requests, and general facilities maintenance.

Equipment availability will be impacted due to additional time needed for processing and measures for COVID decontamination. Equipment repair will take longer. Equipment in need of significant repair may be taken off line.

Faculty support with facilities and remote webcasting will be impacted.

Process Changes

Spontaneous requests for equipment (students and faculty) and facility use (faculty) cannot be honored. All requests for equipment and facility use will need to be made with considerable lead time (no spontaneous requests).

Equipment can be checked-out on Fridays and dropped-off on Mondays. In most cases, equipment will be checked out for 10 days, including 2 weekends.

Todd Evans, Production and Post-Production Manager, will pivot to support cage function and equipment checkouts/returns, and will continue to support facilities and technology for remote teaching.

Students and Faculty should refer to the Fall 2020 Student Manual for full discussion of current procedures.

Postal & Print Services is closed to the public, but remains open to serve the MICA community. Open-door hours for mail pick-up or drop-off are Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Faculty & Staff may also make an appointment for curbside package and mail pickup by contacting the mailroom at 410-225-2202 or by emailing postalandprint@mica.edu.

We will continue to send mail to a department designated staff person of your choice once per week.

All print requests must be sent to postalandprint@mica.edu in advance in .pdf format, with detailed instructions in the body of the email. Instructions for pickup will be provided in a reply when the print request is completed.

Transportation Services

Evening shuttles, circulator shuttles, and field trips have been canceled for the Fall Semester.

For students living in the Gateway, a shuttle service will be provided two days per week to get to the grocery store and pharmacy. Reservations must be made for limited seating on the shuttle; a sign-up sheet will be made available by Residence Life. All students must have a temperature check and be wearing a daily wristband before entering the shuttle. Students must also wear a face mask at all times and sit in the marked seats for social distancing.
