Meet the SEC Leadership

MICA's Staff Empowerment Council is made up of an Executive Committee and various committee chairs. Below are the SEC Leaders and Committee Chairs. Our meetings are open to anyone Director-level and below who wants to learn more about who we are, what we do, and how we can help you as a member of MICA's staff.

Who We Are

Sarah Barnes (she/her), Co-Chair & Staff Grants Committee Chair

Fabrications Studios Manager for Safety and Risk Management, Academic Affairs. Sarah has been working at MICA since 1994. She has 3 cats, 2 dogs and a huge garden. She is an avid quilter and part of the MICA Quilt Raffle group.

Kerrick Thomas, SEC Co-Chair

Sergeant, Campus Safety.

Janine D'Adamo (she/her), Past Chair

Associate Director, Graduate Admission Janine is an alum from 2004, and has been on staff at MICA for 15 years. She's really into basket making! And she makes tons of typos! Janine has a lot of problems with gluten! She also has had 2 ACL knee surgeries, one of which was 5 min into a soccer game.

Karol Martinez-Doane (they/them), Secretary

Director, Center for Student Engagement. Karol is starting their 16th year working at MICA. They have 2 amazing kiddos (7 and 9 years old). Also, they love Disney World!

Leanne Hafer-Dippong (she/her), Treasurer

Educational Planning & Development Coordinator. Leanne joined the SEC to feel more connected to the MICA community she cares about and is proud to serve with some of the most fantastic Staff at MICA. She has a passion for murder mysteries, the insect world, and the beauty of the ampersand.

María Emilia Duno (she/her), Parliamentarian & Staff Senate Workgroup Chair

Undergraduate Admissions Counselor and the coordinator of Baltimore City Diversity Initiatives, Undergraduate Admissions. While in MICA’s Curatorial Practice graduate program, she co-founded a community art library called The Menial Collection where she has been curating exhibitions and events now for three years. Come say hi to her in the admissions office in the Main building or The Menial Collection anytime!

Rita Meissner (sher/her), Professional Development Committee Chair

Assistant Director, Constituent Engagement, Advancement. Rita started in MICA's Advancement Office in 2019. Her work involves engaging the various constituents at MICA (alumni, parents, donors, friends), which is what brought her to SEC. She also enjoys engaging with her coworkers across divisions and is always excited to plan for the Annual Staff Professional Development Day with her peers. When she is not at work she loves being outside and staying active. Some of her favorite hobbies include hiking, yoga, playing tennis, playing football and Aerial Silks/Fabrics (circus performing arts).
