Community Art & Service (CAS) coordinates community-based learning and engagement opportunities for the MICA Community inclusive of students, staff, faculty & alumni.

CAS centers art education, community organizing, wellness, and enthusiastically partners with sites that share MICA’s vision to see the world activated and enriched by artists, designers, and educators who are valued for their leadership and imagination.

Within CAS, there are a variety of ways for students, staff, faculty, and alumni to get involved from Community Site Leaders and France-Merrick Fellows to Day of Service.

Interested MICA students apply and are selected to work closely with Baltimore community sites and their leaders to facilitate arts-based support measures through a year-long commitment. There is a stipend associated with this opportunity.

CSL Project Examples:

  • Facilitate Art Lessons
  • Design Graphics
  • Create Newsletters
  • Engage Communities
  • Build Capacity
  • Plan & Organize Events

Interested MICA students who have served for two semesters as a CSL propose a year-long project with a Baltimore community site of their choice to execute on a collaborative arts-based vision. Fellows serve as mentors to CSLs and deepen their commitment to both the MICA & Baltimore communities. There is a stipend associated with this opportunity.

MICA Day of Service is an opportunity for all members of the MICA community to volunteer their time and efforts to advance the mission of several grassroots sites across Baltimore. Days of Service take place throughout the MICA academic year.
