Graduate Program Assistant

General Purpose

As a Graduate Program Assistant (GPA) for OCI you will be expected to work approximately 7-10 hours per week  during arranged office hours Monday through Friday during those times when fall and spring classes  are in session. The specific hours worked will be at the discretion of the OCI (based on your class schedule and the needs of the office).  There may be additional evening, weekend  events, or projects that will be necessary.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as a resource and ambassador for the OCI on diversity and social justice related issues.
  • Supervise and support undergrad OCI student staff
  • Coordinate all activities in conjunction with planned events, including set-up, tear down, and clean up
  • Maintain a minimum of five weekly office hours in OCI
  • Assist with the planning & implementation of all major OCI events including but not limited to:
    • Unity FestAnnual Benefit Fashion Show and Photoshoot
  • Assist as needed with general office representation (e.g. Open House, Orientation, iLEAD, etc)
  • Prepare, maintain, and update OCI online and social media presence
  • Graphic designer for OCI events
  • Attend biweekly meetings with supervisor
  • Attend biweekly staff meetings
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrates efficient time management while prioritizing workload 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with collaborators and teammates, via email and in-person
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Ability to consider the diverse needs and interests of the MICA student body, and address these through intentional and thoughtful programming

Minimum Qualifications

  • Remain in good social and academic standing 
  • Must be a currently enrolled MICA graduate full time student at time of employment
  • Sincere desire to support OCI events and MICA
  • Commit to one year employment (fall and spring semesters)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in organizing large events
  • Graphic Design knowledge

Compensation

  • Time commitment (approx. 5-7 hours/week)
  • $13 per hour 

Conditions of Employment

  • Enrolled as a current, full-time (12 credit hours) MICA student in good standing at the time of application and throughout the recruitment and employment period.
  • Achievement and maintenance of a minimum 2.5 cumulative the time of application and throughout the recruitment and employment period.
  • Important to note: Past disciplinary violations of MICA policies or the law may result in a candidate being removed from the selection process.
  • Student employees may work no more than 20 hours per week across all on-campus positions.
