The Maryland Institute College of Art is pleased to open a call for applications for a one month residency at Monson Arts. Interested students and alumni can apply through an online Slideroom application with a deadline of February 7th.
Applicants should choose (3) options for preferred dates from the Monson Arts schedule. The selected artist will be provided with a studio space, housing, and food. The artist will receive a $1,000 stipend. Although the studio space will be basic, there will be access to a wood shop and metal shop.
Monson is located at the edge of Maine’s North Woods- a 3.5 million acres of forest bordering Canada. It is the last town on the Appalachian Trail before the beginning of the 100-Mile Wilderness that leads to Mount Katahdin.
The region also has a rich arts tradition— ranging from Henry David Thoreau, who wrote about the area in The Maine Woods to photographer Berenice Abbott who lived in nearby Blanchard, to traditional makers such as the North Woods Canoe Company in Atkinson.
