She began making and self-publishing mini comics during college and has continued to create within alt comics and publishing since then. Building on her undergraduate studies in literature, theater, and art history, she brings research and history into her narrative projects. She is currently working on a graphic memoir about her grandmother's experience of displacement during World War 2. Laila values creating an equitable, welcome, and challenging classroom for her students.
