Wesley Clark is a conceptual artist creating narrative-driven two- and three-dimensional works. His primary concerns are bolstering the spirit of African Americans, creating new angles at which to view and consider history and the contemporary moment. Clark’s other explorations turn inward through active mediative drawings and paintings focused on mark making. Wesley Clark has exhibited works at institutions such as the American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center, Washington DC; Columbia College Glass Curtain Gallery, Chicago, Illinois; Fisk University, Carl Van Vechten Gallery, Nashville, Tennessee; University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Mosely Gallery, Princess Anne, Maryland; Loyola University, Julio Fine Arts Gallery, Baltimore, Maryland; as well as Scope Art Fair where he won “The Baha Mar Current” prize in Miami, Florida. Most recently his works were featured in the 2023 Tennessee Triennial for Contemporary Art, Nashville. Clark’s work, My Big Black America, was acquired by the Asheville Art Museum in 2017. His work can also be found in public and private collections such as The Studio Museum in Harlem, and Kaiser Permanente. In 2016 Clark was commissioned by The American Alliance of Museums to create a temporary public artwork. That foray has led to several permanent public artworks located throughout Washington, DC and Maryland.
