Outside In: 2nd & 3rd Year MFAST Exhibition

Date
July 14, 2023 – July 19, 2023
Location

Outside In traverses interiority and exteriority: of social spaces, of landscapes, of the body, of our perceptions and of our minds. This exhibition seeks to ask what happens when what occurs outside, is brought, or let in. These works are made from oil, wax, furniture, dirt, jello, hair, fibers, wood, gems, water, African textiles, trash, threads, found objects, lint, bioplastics, grass, vines, slime, minerals and polymers. The artists are navigating through spaces, both domestic and cultural, made and unmade, safe and unsafe. A space is only a space when there are visible or invisible boundaries, but boundaries can be both limiting and liberating. The projects aptly hold the tension between these multiple truths as the outside influences what the inside does.

The exhibition features artworks by MICA's M.F.A. in Studio Art Low-Residency 2nd and 3rd year students.
