Parking Policies

Parking in the College lots requires a parking permit (available from Campus Safety). Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please display your parking permit on the lower driver side windshield. With the exception of the Founders Green lot, overnight parking on campus is not permitted. These lots are not attended, so vehicles should be locked. Maryland Institute College of Art is not responsible for damage to vehicles on college lots or for the theft of valuables left in cars.

Obtaining a Permit

To obtain or renew a parking permit, please fill out this form.  You may also go to the Campus Safety Office at 1501 W. Mt. Royal Avenue during MICA business hours.  You may pick up your permit from Campus Safety where you must sign a permit application.

Parking Violations

Vehicles not displaying the proper MICA parking permit and/or found in violation of the rules and regulations will be issued a parking ticket that includes a fine.  Unregistered vehicles parked illegally on campus are subject to being ticketed, booted or towed.  All parking spaces have been identified with painted lines – you are considered in a valid parking space when you have a painted line on each side of your vehicle.

MICA reserves the right to revoke parking privileges temporarily or permanently if parking and traffic regulations are repeatedly ignored, or if resources of the college are placed at risk by the actions of the owner or operator.

Parking Fines:

  • No parking permit: $25
  • Parking in a restricted lot without the proper permit: $25
  • No Parking area: $25
  • Obstructing Driveway or Vehicle: $25
  • Parking in a Fire Lane: $50 plus boot/tow*
  • Unauthorized Parking in a Disability Space: $50 plus boot/tow*
  • Unauthorized Overnight Parking: $25
  • Boot Removal Fee: $100

*All towing is done by Greenwood Towing and separate fees apply, which must be paid directly to the towing company.

If you’ve been ticketed, please note the following:
You may appeal violations with the Campus Safety Office for good cause only within ten (10) calendar days or the fine will be charged to your student account or to the employee.  Faculty/staff not paying a fine by the end of the month a month after the fine is issued will have the fine amount removed by payroll deduction.  There is one appeal allowed per citation.  Appeals will be considered for citations issued in error.

Repeat violations, or actions that endanger safety, may result in a referral to the campus judiciary officer and/or your campus parking privileges may be revoked.

Citations will not be dismissed for lost or forgotten permits, improperly displayed permits, parking “for only a short period of time,” or lack of knowledge of parking rules and regulations.

Accessibility

There are disability parking spaces in each lot on campus and they are identified with blue paint and markings as well as disability signage.  MICA parking permit holders with Disability permits or tags may park only in the marked spaces in the lots, and at the times for which their permit provides access.  Please note that there are also disability spaces on Mt. Royal Avenue and that parking meters are free to Disability permit or tag holders.

For “Temporary Special Needs Parking,” faculty/staff should contact the Human Resources Department at 410-225-2363.  Students with disability parking needs should first contact the Office of Accessibility and Disability Services (ADS) at ads@mica.edu or 410-225-2416.

Electric Vehicle Spaces

MICA has several electric vehicle charging stations in parking lots around campus.  These spaces are available on a first come first served basis, but require a paid permit (B/C) for the Bunting lots and a Residential (R) permit for access in the Founder’s Green lot.  Two dedicated electric vehicle charging stations are available on the 1501 Mt. Royal lot, and can be accessed with a free General (G) parking permit.

On Street Parking

Baltimore City signs are posted regulating on street parking.  Please take the time to read these signs as they vary from block to block.  For those that are eligible for Area #3 Residential Parking Permits, please contact Parking Authority of Baltimore City for further information at 443-573-2800, or parking.baltimorecity.gov.
