WRITING STUDIO NEWS: VIRTUAL APPOINTMENTS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC
Until further notice, all Writing Studio sessions will be delivered via a virtual format. “Virtual” includes Skype, Zoom, or Google Meet sessions; Word or Google Docs reviews. To schedule a virtual appointment, go to calendly.com/micaws or email Michele Glenn, mglenn@mica.edu. Once you have scheduled a virtual appointment, your tutor will contact you to arrange your preferred virtual delivery.
We offer one-on-one tutoring sessions, campus-wide and in-class workshops, and instructional resources designed to bolster the written and verbal communication skills of MICA students.
The Writing Studio provides services in two major categories: the Resource Library and Tutor Support.
What to Expect In a Tutoring Session
Our experienced group of professional tutors will engage students in conversation, to determine what the students wish to accomplish. Generally, tutors will first tackle "global issues" such as a paper's overarching argument, before counseling students on "local issues" such as sentence structure. Typically, sessions are designed to last 50 minutes.
Before You Arrive
Students should arrive at the Writing Studio with a solid grasp of the assignment. It's a good idea to bring related materials, such as an assignment sheet and course texts. Tutors will not edit or proofread an essay but can offer students strategies for completing those tasks on their own.
