Nanette Carter received her BA from Oberlin College and her MFA from Pratt. Nanette taught at Pratt for 20 years. She is represented by the Berry Campbell gallery in Chelsea, NYC. Nanette is working on a wall commission for the Midwood Library in Brooklyn, NY. She has a traveling solo exhibition coming up at Montclair Art Museum in New Jersey that will go to the Wexner Center in Columbus, Ohio. Nanette Carter was on the Board of Directors of The Harlem School of the Arts and Cinque Gallery. Her works have been exhibited across the country and around the globe: Senegal, Togo, Brazil, Bermuda, Germany, and England. With solo exhibits in Cuba, Syria, Italy and Japan. Nanette has received numerous grants which include the NEA, Anonymous Was a Woman, The Gottlieb Foundation, The Jerome Foundation, New York Foundation for the Arts, The Pollock-Krasner Foundation and many more. 

She lives and works in New York City.

“Working with intangible ideas around contemporary issues has been one of my motivating forces. Reading the news about different developments taking place around the world has turned me into a chronicler of our time. How to present these ideas in an abstract vocabulary of form, line, color and texture is the quest. This is the challenge that intrigues me most.”
