Statement
Male Pregnancy is a popular plot setting in female fanfic culture, a literary genre whose followers read and write their own fantasy stories. Women who are drawn to male pregnancy fantasies enjoy seeing their male characters suffer from pregnancy and become vulnerable. This project depicts the gaze directed at males by members of the fanfic community, showing what these female readers and writers want to see. The project explores why and what women enjoy when they see male pregnancy, and tries to create a space that inverts the power dynamic between binary gender categories. In this fantasy world, the female gaze and objectifies the male body.
